    When the draw was made for the knockout stage this looked like a very, very tough night for Manchester United indeed.

    In mid-December, Jose Mourinho’s side were 11 points off a top-four place and had just been thumped at Anfield, with Mourinho 24 hours away from the sack.

    Fast forward a couple of months and Manchester United have won 10 out of 11 games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have snuck into fourth and look like a proper, exciting team again.

    PSG are still walking away with Ligue 1 – they are 10 points clear now – but they have lost both Neymar and Edinson Cavani to injury and have had the toughest few weeks of their season.

    There has still been no word from Manchester United about the permanent successor to Jose Mourinho.

    It feels very much like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job to lose though, and, judging by his programme notes, the Norwegian has been involved in planning for the future.
