  1. Listen again to the big EFL preview show

    BBC Radio 5 live

In case you missed Tuesday night’s big preview of the EFL season on BBC Radio 5 live, it’s available to listen to again both online, on iPlayer radio or as a podcast via your usual provider.

Caroline Barker was joined by Mark Clemmit, Stephen Warnock and Simon Grayson plus a host of managers and players for a full and comprehensive look ahead at the coming campaign.

  2. Team news

Reading v Derby County (20:00 BST)

There are two debutants for Reading too, with Republic of Ireland midfielder David Meyler and former Barnsley captain Andy Yiadom named in the XI.

Boss Paul Clement includes his two recent striker signings – Sam Baldock and Marc McNulty – on the bench, where they are joined by experienced former Manchester United defender John O’Shea.

Reading: Mannone; Yiadom, McShane, Ilori, Richards; Aluko, Meyler, Swift, Kelly, Barrow; Bodvarsson.

Subs: Walker, O’Shea, Bacuna, Baldock, Meite, Clement, McNulty.

The answer to that question is no. In fact George Evans isn’t in the 18, which probably means that his absence in the season-opener was part of the deal.

New Derby boss Frank Lampard hands debuts to Harry Wilson and Mason Mount in his first Rams XI.

There’s plenty of experience in the line-up too in the form of captain Curtis Davies, keeper Scott Carson, midfielder Joe Ledley and striker David Nugent.

Derby: Carson; Wisdom, Keogh, Davies, Lowe; Bryson, Ledley, Mount; Wilson, Nugent, Lawrence.

Subs: Roos, Jozefzoon, Johnson, Pearce, Bennett, Thomas, Bogle.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at this evening’s team news…

  5. “By George, back so soon?”

George Evans only left the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday morning to sign a deal with Derby County, but just three days later he’s back in town for his new club.

Will the former Manchester City midfielder make a debut for Derby on familiar territory?

  6. We meet again….

These two know all about each other and for his first competitive time in the dugout, Frank Lampard will have a familiar face in Paul Clement for company along the touchline.

The pair were together at Chelsea as coach and player respectively between 2007 and 2012. Tonight they will be working against each other to get their sides off to the perfect start in this Championship campaign.

Will it be a first day in the job to remember for Lampard or will Clement teach the coaching rookie a thing or two about football management at the sharp end?

  7. The Frank Lampard show?

And, certainly before kick-off, there’s only one story in town tonight as former England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard makes his managerial bow in charge of the visitors to the Madejski Stadium, Derby County.

In fact, such has been the interest in him taking over at Pride Park that the Rams feel like they’ve been re-branded Frank Lampard’s Derby.

But Lampard will be coming up against a familiar foe in the opposing dugout…

  8. The EFL season starts here…

Well, that was quick wasn’t it?!

It’s been 68 days since Coventry City wrapped up the last EFL season by winning the League Two play-off final – but with the World Cup taking our attention this summer it barely feels that football’s been away.

But tonight is the night that the EFL comes home. Welcome to the start of the 2018-19 season as Reading and Derby County get the Championship under way.
